Friday in the City

Well, I am glad that the conference is over.  It is "warm" in the city with degrees in the whooping 50s.  Actually feel inspired to run again but I am stuck in the NYC office and got a huge blister on my foot from new sneakers and the 10K run yesterday.  Looking forward to seeing the lovely Wake brigade this evening for Mexican, drinks and laughs.  Had a great dinner last night with the Keats and Gene at Elizabeth on Elizabeth and Houston.  I think the food was great even if their specialty drinks were kind of bizarre.  First, I ended up with a martini which wasn't quite what I had pictured.  The second was a spicy cucumber drink with tequila.  That was really weird.  I think I am going back to the basics this evening- tequila and beer.  That usually does the trick.

So, I skipped the hotel lunch and speaker and headed to Central Park for a run around the big loop. Boy it was cold. Low 40s. I was wearing shorts and a long sleeve tee shirt. Everyone else out there was wearing leggings and jackets. I can only imagine what they were thinking of me...

Using Gmail to blog so I avoid weird postscript

Day 2 of conference. Preparing myself for another gross hotel lunch. Hopefully I'll get a chance to run later today. Looks like one of 2 days it might hit the 50s and I have to take advantage of that. I am looking forward to dinner with GiGi and Mrs. Keats this evening at Elizabeth downtown. At least I have avoided spending much time in Times Square after hours.

Women's Business Dress

So, I am at a conference in NYC and blogging from my blackberry. Guys are pretty much the same at these things. Suits or khakis and jacket. Women? All over the place. Some in suits, some business dressy. Then some random stuff. Suits with skirts with leggings?! Casual pants and sweaters. All over the board. I stick with the basics. Last thing you want to do at a business conference is stick, especially when you already stick out a bit because I am female, young and blonde.

Flying out this afternoon on JetBlue to NYC. I cannot wait to see all my NYC ladies this week. Back in the windy apple.

Thank You Mom for getting me hooked on the Bachelor

Next Monday is the finale of the Bachelor.  I am not normally a fan of any reality TV and avoid having "shows" that I watch because I generally get busy and forget which night they are on.  Last week, I watched the Bachelor for the first time and I am definitely in for next Monday night.  It helps that I avoided the awkwardness of some of the earlier dates with the crazy girls in the beginning.  But I was disappointed last week by the girl he cut.  She was my favorite.  Now, I don't really care who he chooses because I am not a super fan of either girl.  But, I still want to see which one he picks, Melissa the Dallas Cowgirl or Molly from MI.  I think Melissa will probably win.  She just seems more dopey and gushes over everything he does.  There is supposed to be some big controversy at the end so not so sure how it will end up.  Everyone likes to believe in happy endings - I hope one of those girls gets theirs. 

Choppin' Broccoli

As I was sprawled out on the couch last night recovering from the exercise of up-rightinga 420 in windy conditions, I ate things for dinner to help clean out my fridge.  I head to NYC tomorrow afternoon and don't want to come back to a lot of rotting veggies.  I have enjoyed a couple of my own tomatoes, a jalapeno, a ton of lettuce and now... broccoli.  Just steamed it and sprinkled it with some garlic powder and Parmesan cheese.  Quite tasty.  I took the picture with my phone because I was too lazy to get the camera.  But also being lazy last night, I posted my first message on the website by email using my blackberry.  It was really easy.  Now, when I am away from the computer for business or vacation, I can still do a quick post so I won't disappear on anyone.

We had almost finished frostbite for the season and we capsized. It was a windy, chilly day and not ideal for swimming. I am thoroughly covered in bruises and just took two Aleve with a beer. My legs are going to look hot in a skirt next week.

I feel like I could handle a second job as a lookout for the Bermudian Regiment. 

02/23/09- I was corrected Friday night- this is a Canadian frigate.  Some people are very specific about their naval ship classifications.

Sushi Happy Hour

Above is a picture of the sushi bar at Harbourfront.  A group of us took full advantage of the sushi happy hour special last night.  I needed a couple glasses of wine after the work day I had yesterday.  They hired a new guy in our department that has done zero work in the 3 weeks he has been here.  And now I am being asked to do some of his work for him.  Lovely.
