Monday Night DIY Project

This is the back of my front door.  As I live on a street, I added the curtain for some privacy.  The curtain is three years old and while it looks good in a blurry picture at night - it had some mildew and it was time to go.  After watching a DIY show on TV, I decided to buy some privacy film.  There were many different kinds and you can probably buy them at home improvement stores.  I got my on amazon.com.

I also don't have a yard stick - so I made do with the straight edge of my flip and fold.  Who knew it did more than fold?

I cut squares to fit the windows.

Spray the glass with water with a little soap and place the film on the window pane.

Use a squeege to squeeze out the bubbles - or just use your fingers.

Then it is finished.  

Have a friend/your mom go outside and test how private the film is.  She said it looked great and she couldn't see in clearly.

It was an easy fix and looks better than the cheap curtain hanging over the window.  And, the landlord can just peel it off if he doesn't like it.  I have some leftover and I am thinking of adding it to the panes on the bottom part of my bathroom window.  The thing that took the longest was measuring and cutting.  But I think the result is great.

The Help

I've been getting some quality reading in recently.  I read The Help last weekend.  It is great.  If you've spent any time in the South.  If you like a touching story.  If you like historical fiction.  If you like books about relationships between women.  Go and get this book.

Busy Week

So, my parents have been in town for a week and things at work have been mucho busy.  I realize I have been negligent in posting and forgot my camera at home today so I cannot post any of my pictures.  

The visit with my parents has been really great.  They help me get a lot of things accomplished around the house that I cannot do by myself; can't figure out how to do it or need an extra set of hands for.  Things are looking very good although with my lease being up on 07/01, moving keeps looming in my mind.  

It if full blown summer around these parts.  Lots of sun and warm days.  I am looking forward to my vacation coming up in less than 2 weeks.

Pulling Some Pork for Enchiladas

Slow cooked some pork yesterday for some delicious enchiladas.  My parents even liked them, and they aren't huge fans of Mexican.

Thowing a pork shoulder in your crockpot with some chicken broth and taco seasonings for 10 hours has got to be the easiest cooking ever.

Right before the cheese went on and they got baked.

Rush Hour Nightmare

I take my scooter to work everyday so I can travel down the middle of the two lanes and get to work in a timely manner.  I know some people have to bring kids into town so they have to drive there cars.  But there are so many people who drive themselves to work in a car.  Causing traffic.  So much traffic.  I had my car tuned and inspected the other day, so I had to drive to work.  It was fine getting in because the garage opens at 8, so I left at 7:45 so I could be there at 8 and avoid the 9 o'clock rush.  But the garage closed at 5:30 - so there was no avoiding the traffic on the way home.  And, driving a manual is even more of a pain.  Constantly shifting up and down from first to second.  Ridiculous.  I realize the pictures don't look all that terrible, probably because when the traffic was more backed up it was too hard to take pictures!!  

Bermuda needs to start car pooling and using their buses.  

Traveling

Susan and Jeff are about to hit the road in their trailer for an amazing summer adventure.  Follow them on http://traveltrailerstyle.blogspot.com/.  I am sure the stories will be fantastic.  

Less than a month countdown before Melinda and my trip to Peru!  Really looking forward to the break from work and exploring Peru from the coast; up Machu Picchu and then across to the Amazon.  I think it is going to be amazing.  I've gotten the shots and the malaria pills.  Next step is to start packing.  Nice I can use my extra room to use as a packing area.  

I've been looking forward to my next adventure.  Not sure where to go next.  I was thinking Africa.  South Africa/Botswana.  Somewhere that I've never been before that promises sights I've never seen and new experiences.  

Hell, if I don't have kids and a husband anchoring me to one place- I might as well travel while I can!!

Bright Idea

I was watching a show on television a while back about the LED bulbs that are supposed to hit the market in January.  They use tons of less energy than normal bulbs to produce the same amount of light.  And, they don't burn out.  They last a lifetime.  So, they will save people lots of $$$ in the future.  However, right now, these bulbs are estimated to be worth about $50 a piece.  

Still, pretty cool and something to look out for.  

Guacamole

Is there anything better than good guac?  Melinda made fish tacos last night for her friends from out of town, who I happen to know too.  So, I offered to bring the guac.  Yum.  Only hang up is that if you wait until the last minute to buy avocados and all of the avocados are hard.  Luckily, after some digging, I found some that were sort of soft.

My fallback recipe:

• 2-3 avocados mashed up
• 1/4 cup of lime juice, fresh or from a bottle
• 1-2 tomatoes diced up
• 1/4 red onion diced up
• 2-3 garlic cloves diced up
• dried or fresh cilantro to taste
• cumin to taste
• salt to taste
• 4 oz can of chopped chiles (optional)

In all honesty, the first two are a must the rest of the ingredients are optional.  Things like black beans or canned corn kernels would be good too.  Clear out the cabinet guac...

Philadelphian Beer

Had one of these the other weekend with Beth and David.  It was pretty good.
