I am back from Chicago and spent the better part of the weekend cramming for the exam that I signed up to take tomorrow morning.  I also spent a good deal of time procrastinating and avoiding the books.  I got a good deal of dusting and cleaning done as well.  Reminds me of how clean my room was in college right around exam time.  I still have half of the chapters to review.  So, I am going to do what I can at work and hopefully leave early to hit the books at home - where it is quiet and there are less human distractions.

Grand Slam - Pro Am

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

I grabbed some tickets on Friday to watch the Grand Slam Pro Am yesterday at MOC and dragged Melinda along.  It was a beautiful day to be outside.  Sunny and breezy.  It was a great day to spend walking along watching golf.  We spent some time watching Jim Furyk and Padraig Harrington and of course, Michael Douglas.  Michael Douglas is fairly slim in real life and in good shape.  We had a good time watching.  I am headed back to MOC today to watch the first day of the Grand Slam.  Then I am flying off to Chicago later this afternoon for work.  I will be back on Friday.  The Pro Am is special in that it is the only day that cameras are allowed on the course so I snapped up a few.  The picture on the left is Jim Furyk walking to the next green, you can see his recognizable nose.  On the right is Padriag Harrington (in red) after taking a put.  Michael Douglas (in blue) is putting below.

Gold Cup Semi Finals

Saturday, October 11, 2008

After rowing on Saturday, I headed to RBYC to watch the semi finals.  It was fairly good match racing and a good sunny afternoon to be on the boat.  Lots of spectators out in the harbor that day.  Would have like to watch the finals too but I had already lined up the 5K, Oktoberfest and Canadian Thanksgiving that day!

Gold Cup - 101th Anniversary

The Gold Cup is one stage of nine of the World Match Race Tour which is the oldest match-racing competition in the world for one-design yachts.  This race is sailed in the harbour and I can see if from my office.  When it starts up today I will take a picture and post it later.  The race starts with 24 match racing teams and ends with one winner.  The teams all race on IODs.  The interesting thing is that IODs are all exactly the same, all over the world.  The IODs they use are from the Bermuda fleet here.  No boat can get a new sail or new piece of equipment without ever other boat getting the exactly same piece of new equipment.  It keeps the boats the same and makes it a fairer race.  More information... www.bermudagoldcup.com

Last Night of Rowing in 2008

Thursday, October 09, 2008

100908 (Small).jpgWith the sun setting earlier and earlier every night, rowing is becoming difficult to do.  So last night was our last weeknight to row until spring.  Now, they are moving workouts to the BHS gym until spring.  They will still have weekend rowing which I really enjoy.  So, I am looking forward to that on Saturday.

ANTM booted off a cute blonde.  I don't understand the judges on that show.  Tyra Banks is crazy.

Last night it was cool enough that the tree frogs didn't chirp.  It was weird and quiet.  I rather enjoyed a peaceful evening for the first time all year.

I have 2 surprise work showers this week.  The first this afternoon.  This baby was actually already born, although premature.  So we think a post baby shower is due.  I never had a job before where they threw work showers and parties like this.  Kind of strange.  It was especially weird at first because I didn't really know anyone.  At least now that I have been here for 2 years, I actually know the people of honor!
