VLS in the House
Tuesday, April 24, 2007
I was out of the office on a D&O (director & officer) liability seminar yesterday. Thrilling.
Anyway, I had a fabulous weekend hanging out with Karen and Gene. The weather cooperated for the most part. We did get hit with a little squall when we were out on the boat on Saturday afternoon. We almost lost Gene's bandana on our cruise and Karen's sunglasses jumped off her head into the water when we got off the boat. It was quite the trip. It was great to see them and catch up with them. I really miss having good girl friends around. I know I will make some here eventually, but there is nothing like spending time with good girl friends to lift your spirits; make you laugh and fill you with happiness. I think we would have had a good time if we had never left the house and just sat out on the porch; looking at the ocean and talking. I miss them already!
Last night was sailing. We had a good time and have decided as a group to take the next level class in May on Monday nights. It is a good excuse to get yourself outside after work. The breeze on your face and the sun on your skin, it is wonderful.

Weekend Weather Wise
Friday, April 20, 2007
After a couple on again/off again days- it looks like this weekend is shaping up to be a nice one. Not super warm but in the high 60s. I was hoping for some sunny skies because this weekend I have two friends visiting from law school. Although, I don't have any plans hammered out yet, I think it will be a fun weekend. When you are stuck in law school for 3 years with all of the freaks and the geeks, you really bond to the normal friends you find. Gene, affectionately referred to as Chief Justice Murtha, and Karen, often called Ms. McCrall, are coming in on today's JetBlue flight. They were originially scheduled to come in February right around when NYC got hit with some snowstorms. Ujnfortunately, their flight was cancelled. We are trying again this weekend. I cannot wait for some story telling about some of the odd balls we hung out with in school. The stories make me laugh until I cry. These are some sharp and witty women who are great fun to be around. I cannot wait until their arrival!

Passwords
Thursday, April 19, 2007
As expected I have a password to log onto my computer at work every morning. Then I have a password to access our paperless file system. I also have a password for the accounting system. Lastly, I have a password for the database that records audits and large loss documents. 4 passwords. All change at different times. All have been different since a month into this job. Is it necessary? I find it hard to believe. I understand the password to log on and, maybe yes, the separate password for the accounting system because we can use it to make payments. But 4 different passwords? What this causes is problems. Does it really make our computers more secure when you end up writing down all the different passwords because it is hard to remember 4 passwords that are all changing at different times? Moreover, the accounting system will block you if you make a mistake twice logging in. Twice. What it is, is ridiculous. It is job security for the IT department and it is really annoying.

Gun Control
Wednesday, April 18, 2007
The second amendment is a joke. There are some really ridiculous politics in Bermuda but when something happens like the massacre at VT, I am glad I live in Bermuda. The second amendment was crafted at the end of the 1700s in order for people to protect themselves against militias when the US was a new country and people were concerned about conflicts between different factions. How this amendment has been interpreted to allow hand guns and semi-automatic weapons is beyond me. I am not even that sympathetic to hunters. Hunting was something that was done when food was scarce. The idea of hunting in 2007 when grocery stores are on every corner and more are being built by the minute in mega-strip malls is a joke. Moreover, I don't believe that using high-tech scopes and hiding in tree stands can be considered a sport. I don't understand how the NRA is so powerful and how politians are so pathetic. If I was running, I would say that I absolutely stand behind the second amendment. Sure! 100% To continue- in 1789, when the second amendment was adopted, people were using one-shot muzzleloaders. So, I would absolutely allow one-shot muzzleloaders. Anything invented afterwards would be illegal. End of story. More fair to the deer, NRA. Not so easy to carry around a campus or in downtown on a drug deal.
