My Latest
Bike

decal (Small).gifWednesday, February 07, 2007

So, I am getting the details finalized on my new moped.  I am supposed to pick it up on Friday and I am getting really excited.  It is a light blue Piaggio Liberty, 125cc.  It is the same maker of Vespas but this bike has bigger tires.  Bigger tires are safer than Vespas' smaller tires.  Anyway, I have already been thinking about personalizing this bike.  The image on the right is very similar to the decal I just ordered except mine will be pink (my favorite color.)  I think it will look really cute on the back end of the bike.  I ordered it to the states, so it will take some time to get it here.  The bike is light blue and the make is considered "girly" around these parts so I am not worried about adding a pink flower to the tail of my bike!

Class

Wednesday, February 07, 2007

So last night was my first reinsurance class.  I am taking it because a part of my new job in Bermuda is dealing with reinsurance treaties and I have little to no experience with them.  I figured I might learn something and it will look good to my boss to go for outside credit.  It actually wasn't too bad.  The teacher is a fairly interesting guy considering his subject.  But I am clearly a little over-educated compared with the majority of the class.  Besides myself (an attorney) and two accountants, most of the class are TAs (technical assistant) types trying to get a leg up at work.  Oh well, if I take a couple of the exams provided I can actually earn a designation.  I figure the exams cannot be anything like the NY bar exam and I survived that.  Good for the ol' resume and good come bonus time.

Anyway, Jesse picked me up from class and we headed to Specialty Inn for dinner.  It is probably the closest thing that Bermuda has to a diner.  But it also has sushi as a twist.  I ordered some salmon sashimi and cheese pizza.  (I happen to think their pizza is pretty good.)

Last thing to note is that it looks like I will be getting my bike soon!  I am supposed to sign some paper work this morning.  I cannot wait!  I will definitely take some pictures and post them so you can see my new ride.

Flowers all year long

One fantastic thing about Bermuda is that there are always flowers blooming all year long.  I do like east coast winters but when all of the trees and plants are dormant, it gets kind of depressing.  Some of the flowers here bloom in cycles, but it seems that hibiscus blooms all year long.  Hibiscus blooms can be seen all over the island currently.  They actually are a bush and used quite often as hedgerows here.  Red, light pink, deep pink, yellow, and white- these flowers are very cheery and that is why I picked it for my website's logo.  The hibiscus above is a double flower so it has twice as many petals as a normal hibiscus.  They don't seem to have much smell but they are beautiful flowers.

Happy Birthday!

Congratulations Bill & Bristol!  New daughter, Elizabeth Rose, was born on Friday night at 7 lb and 12 oz.  She is absolutely adorable.  I can attest to the fact, as I got to visit the new addition last night.  Big brother, Thomas, seemed a little more interested in watching Mickey Mouse but I know it won't take too long to become a great little helper.  You can see him in the background of the lower picture on the right.  He was glued to the TV but he was also very tired from a long day of visitors and excitement.  Bristol looked great.  She was chuckling because it was Sunday night and she hadn't emailed her work yet to tell them she had had 020407 001 (Small).jpgthe baby and wasn't coming in the next day.

It was a great weekend overall even if the weather here was rainy.  It wrapped up with the Super Bowl.  I wasn't that concerned about who won or lost, but I always enjoy nachos and mozzerella sticks!

Full Moon

Last night was a gorgeous full moon.  After work, we took a walk on the beach because it was still pretty light out.  I love the fact it is staying lighter longer.  Gives me a second wind when I come home for the night.  Anyway, the sun was setting and the clouds were all pink.  Then I saw the moon creeping out from under a pink cloud.  I wished I had brought my camera with me.  But I walked out later to take a snapshot of the moon.

Later on we headed to Yashi, my favorite sushi place in Bermuda (and highly recommended by a Bermudian that I met who lived in Japan for years.)  It is almost a hole in the wall, but they make some amazing sushi.  All the good stuff they serve is not on the menu.  You have to ask for recommendations or just "know" what to order.  We have our favorites now, including a scallop tempura appetizer, hot rock roll and number one roll.  It is so good, not cheap, but very good.  It also takes some time because there are only two sushi guys and lots of orders.  Well worth the wait in my opinion.
