This cat is ready for a ride.  It just needs a little helmet.

Maniac on a Moped

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

I am getting on with my new bike pretty well.  I have gotten a lot of nice compliments on my new set of wheels and it is nice to be riding around again.  Before I got the bike, Jesse and I were commuting together to work on his bike.  It is very nice to be driven around everywhere.  There is something really fun and relaxing about riding on the back of a bike, taking in the sites without having to pay any attention to the road.  But now that Jesse is away, I have been riding to work by myself every day.  The advantages of riding a scooter to work out number the occasional times it rains on my journey.  First, I have to admit that the ride to work is only 2.38 miles.  But that distance encompasses the major route into the city which gets clogged by cars early on.  While the suckers in their cars wait in a long line, scooters zip through the traffic in the middle of the road.  Sometimes it can be a little harrowing, especially when a bus is headed in your direction.  But the more confident you get on the bike, the more cars you pass everyday.  The commute becomes that much more shorter.  The adrenaline rush isn't too bad either.  Passing traffic is not for the faint of heart and you have to be paying attention all the time.  You never know when a car is going to try to turn right in front of you.  Quite an adventure.

Weekend Recap

Monday, February 26, 2007

I found myself relatively busy this weekend.  After work on Friday, I headed over to Bristol and Bill's house to see 3 week old Elizabeth Rose.  I was lucky enough to crash the male celebration of Bill's last day at his job.  There was lots 022407 008 (Small).jpgof eating and drinking and I participated in both.  It was a fun night and I got to catch up with a few guys I hadn't seen in a while.  On both Saturday and Sunday, I took the dogs for a walk.  My charges are very lovable but very spirited and difficult for me to control on the leash.  What a workout.  The picture on the right is a shot of them from behind the gate.  They always look so sad when I leave.  I also finished the book I was reading, that always gives me a sense of accomplishment.  Saturday night, I headed to Sylvia's for Andrew's birthday dinner.  She made a great Moraccan feast with all of the fixings.  It was a really good dinner and clearly enjoyed by all.  Sunday was filled with much of the same as Saturday.  But it was topped off with dinner with Carola.  We had a good time talking and then commenting on the beginning of the Oscars.

Finally Friday

Friday, February 23, 2007

I am not sure why but this week has been exceptionally slow and I am glad to see it end.  Although I will say, that I usually don't make a lot of comments/complaints about what day of the week it is anymore.  I found myself always complaining of it only being Tuesday and wishing it was Friday.  I was thinking about it one day and realized that I am only wishing my life to move by faster.  In reality, I like it the pace it is.  Before I know it, I will be 80 and I will be thankful for every day of the week, whether it is Monday or not.  Yes, I occasionally still will complain once in a while, but I am trying to get better about it.

Rainy

Thursday, February 22, 2007

This morning when I woke up I looked outside.  I wondered about maybe taking my foul weather gear to work, just in case it rained later.  Well, about three minutes later the heavens opened up.  There was no question, I was wearing the foul weather gear to work.  So a rainy ride to work this morning.  Still, I cannot complain.  The ride is like 7 minutes when the traffic isn't too bad.  Even when it is raining, it is not much to complain about as long as you are dressed appropriately.

Last night, I saw a performance by a group called Red Priest.  They call their show "Red Hot Baroque."  Four performers: one cello, one violin, one recorder and a guy on a harpsicord.  It was very interesting.  Baroque music with some twists with a film running in the background.  My friend had the tickets and asked if I wanted to go.  She said she had no idea what it was about but thought it was supposed to be funny.  Well, it was amusing but not in a laugh out loud kind of way.  But it was entertaining and I did enjoy it.  I did think to myself it would make a nice CD to play at a Christmas party or something.  Also made me realize that there are many different ways people make their livings.
