This is the outside of the newly remodeled and refurbished beach house. The house looks fantastic and my parents did a great job with it. The house previously didn't have central air and I don't know how we survived there without it. The dogs especially love the house! I think they look forward to the trips down more than my parents do. We had pretty good weather the entire time and had a lot of fun and relaxation. Now, I just have to figure out my next vacation!! In other news, Susan and Jeff had their baby on Monday- a little boy, Barclay Thomas. And I missed Beth, Anne and Mitchell's birthdays while I was away on vacation. Happy Birthday young ladies!

What is going on with the market?

I had a great vacation to come back to insanity at work. Lehman is bankrupt. AIG is on the brink. Plus all the reinsurance implications of the Ike damage. Things are absolutely nuts here. I can feel all the relaxation draining out of my body by the second!

Chillin' in HB
September 7, 2008
Well, after some delays I finally made it down to NC. I was able to complete the first leg of the journey on Friday and get myself to PHL. Luckily, Beth was out and about in Philly last weekend so I was able to spend the night hanging out with her and eating sushi at Fuji Mountain. The next morning I headed back to the PHL airport and the flight to Charlotte was able to get off before Hanna made her way to PA. The flight went way west in able to fly entirely around the storm and get us to Charlotte safely. Then the connection to Wilmington was a breeze. We ate dinner at the Reel Cafe along the waterfront in Wilmington and then headed to Holden Beach. The weather has been sunny, humid and hot. Not that I expected any less from coastal Carolina in the beginning of September. So far, I have hit Walgreens, Home Depot and Wal-Mart and the outlets in Myrtle Beach. Hey, when you live in a place with zero variety and very little choice, it is like heaven here.

Stupid Hanna
Friday, September 05, 2008

Of course the day I am expected to head off for vacation, Hanna is supposed to hit the east coast. My girls' weekend in Sea Island has been postponed and I am trying to get to Holden Beach now. There is a voluntary evacuation in Holden as we speak and I am trying to fly into Wilmington NC. My first leg is BDA to Philly. Hopefully, I can at least get myself to Charlotte. I could probably rent a car and then meet up with my parents who might be staying with my aunt in Wilmington by then. And I am definitely only taking a carry on. Philadelphia has enough issues is baggage when the weather is good. If I am going to be able to switch airports, if necessary, then I need to have all my belongings with me and ready to go. Wish me luck! This will explain any radio silence next week.

America's Next Top Model started last night. What a trainwreck. Melinda and Megan came over for something to eat and to start squaring up our picks for winners. There is a pool run by a friend of Melinda's in Toronto that we all enter. Last year no one won but I think I had a runner up. The $$$ all goes to charity. Tyra Banks is a piece of work, that is all I have to say about her and I will leave it at that. So, since I hosted I made some food. I made whirly twirlies, spinach salad and brownie sundaes. Whirly Twirlies are an uncooked pizza rolled up, cut into circles and then baked. Its pretty good. Spinach salad with dried cranberries, walnuts and pomagranate dressing. Brownie topped with cookie dough ice cream and whipped cream. Very diet. I took a snapshot of the pizza before I rolled it and cut it into circles. I tried to make it more "healthy" by adding spinach before rolling. The spinach was actually a nice touch. Some basil would have worked well also.
