Hog Penny Heaven

Hog Penny.  Renamed Bermuda's Daytona Bar.  Daytona's being the bar that we frequented at Wake Forest.  Its main source of entertainment is Will Black, of course.  A guy who plays a guitar and sings back up to an ipod.  He has a list of songs that he plays on a sheet and you can make requests.  It is kind of like karoke.  Well, Bermuda's version of karoke.  Here is a picture of Louise and Susanna from Friday night in between songs.

Battle Ready

So next week is the infamous Cup Match weekend.  Thursday and Friday are national holidays so it makes it a 4 day weekend.  Beth flies in tomorrow and Allison, Louise and Susanna fly in on Thursday.  I am stockpiling water, beer, wine, liquor, snacks, sunscreen and advil. 

I have been straightening the house and trying to get it ready for the guests.  Clearing up the cobwebs and getting towels for beaching and showering all set and ready to go. 

Working on some reservations for next week. 

I only wish they would mow the lawn again.  But they only come once a month and it was only two weeks ago that the visited.  All the rain we got made the grass grow like crazy.  Usually in the summer, it is rather dry and the grass slows down.

Rain

Well, we need some in these parts.  We had a sprinkle one or two nights but not a whole lot and I've seen a lot of water trucks out there delivering water to the less water fortunate.  I am more concerned about the flowers I have recently planted.  They are all in nice pots out on the steps of the front and back doors but they need rain so I don't have to remember to water them.  I also broke down and bought herb seedlings.  After a few failed attempts at growing them from seed, I just cheated.  It was another beautiful weekend here.  Did a long run Sunday morning, my last until the half marathon.  I have a feeling it is going to be a warm one. 

On an exciting note, Susanna and Allison have bought tickets so they are definites for a Cup Match visit.  Something fun to look forward to!

Days just get away

I don't know what happened to the day yesterday.  I started a post with full intention of finishing it yesterday and I just got distracted and never finished.  Some of it was work distractions.  But I was also trying to coordinate some incoming visits with friends.  I am trying to work on some good hotel recommendations.  My life is so centered around town with work and going out that it is hard for me to recommend hotels that aren't fairly central.  So, I give you Salyer's Bed & Breakfast...

02/23/09- I was corrected Friday night- this is a Canadian frigate.  Some people are very specific about their naval ship classifications.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

My mom's flight back to PHL is today.  I am very sad to see her go.  She is great company and I love spending time with her.  I like living by myself and I am not lonely but it is actually nice to have a friendly face to come home to and talk with.  Of course, if you aren't happy with the person you live with- that is an entirely different story.  Then living by yourself is a dream.

Bermuda experienced some pretty severe weather on Monday night and Tuesday.  Gale force winds and lots of rain.  I am actually surprised we didn't lose the power.  Luckily, the winds have died down today so that my mom's flight will be able to come in and leave without a problem.  However, the winds are supposed to return for Thursday.  Riding the bike isn't that much fun in the wind!

Mom is in town

My mom found an e-saver on US Air for Bermuda and decided to come for a last minute visit.  She is here through next weekend and so far the weather hasn't been the most cooperative.  Hopefully, it will warm up by the weekend.  She did bring two new house accessories.  They've already been put into action.
